A few years ago, as a doctoral student at Nova Southeastern University, I sought out to find out if transformational leadership had a positive impact on the retention of virtual millennial volunteers. Through this doctoral experience of developing a dissertation around the subject matter, not only did I discover some strategic keys that organizational leaders can use to increase the retention rates amongst members of the younger generation, but more importantly, I realized that more research, knowledge, and insight needed to be attained within various organizations and companies to increase the retention, engagement, and development of culturally diverse leaders of the Millennial generation
Based on this finding, I was inspired to create R.E.D. Leadership, a book for people that desire to become more effective at retaining, engaging, and developing more culturally diverse leaders of the younger generation. In effect, the sole purpose of this book is to help organizational leaders from various areas of expertise become better at retaining, engaging, and developing culturally diverse world class leaders from the most culturally diverse generation in American History.
R.E.D. Leadership is a book that is not only separated with three distinct sections that revolve around retention, engagement, and leadership development, but more importantly, within these different sections, Dr. Fredenburg provides fifteen strategic keys that organizational leaders from any area of expertise can implement to experience an increase in the retention, engagement, and development of culturally diverse world class leaders of the emerging generation within your company or organization.
With approximately 43% of the Millennial Generation (born 1977-1994) being African American, Hispanic American, or Asian/Pacific Islander according to Nielson and 48% of Generation Z (born 1995 – 2010) coming from culturally diverse backgrounds, the need for more resources that are geared towards helping organizational leaders become more effective at retaining, engaging, and developing more culturally diverse world class leaders of the younger generation is needed more than ever for those who desire to experience the positive results of a culturally diverse organization or company.
A study on retention done by culture Amp revealed that 12% of people leave because of a manager, 11% leave because of pay, 52% leave beacause of a lack of development opportunities, and 28% decided to move on because of leadership.
